Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 19

In Greene County district court Eric Wayne Bellinghausen, 42, of Jefferson was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Bellinghausen was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must pay $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Morgan Paterson, 36, of Ames was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. Paterson was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He must pay $7,600 restitution to Wild Rose Casino. He must pay an amount not to exceed $1,000 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Harvick Beals, 19, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver not more than 50 kg. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommendations at his own expense. Beals must pay a $1,025 civil penalty, an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $173 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Brandy Nicole Ranker, 38, of Scranton was sentenced to 180 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. All but seven days of the sentence was suspended and she was placed on informal probation for one year to the Greene County sheriff. Ranker was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. She must pay an amount not to exceed $1,500 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $216 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Tory Richard Beger, 28, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Jesse James Bennett, 26, of Linden, trespass- injury or damage more than $300; Rodney Charles Sheffield, 36, of Scranton, unauthorized use of credit card less than $1,500; Jennie Christena Schuttler, 42, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Rick Eugene Tuhn, 42, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; and Bryan J. Bryant, 64, of Denison, operating while intoxicated- second offense. Trial dates were set for Sept. 27 for all defendants except Bryant. His trial date was set for Nov. 1.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: James Lin Wells, 67, of Urbandale, forgery and identity theft less than $1,500; Troy Richard Dougherty 51, of Ames, fraudulent practice- second degree, gambling- avoid setoff; and Donald Michael Schultz, 23, of Webster City, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, and domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness.
